People with continuing care needs can now apply to their Local Authority or the NHS to have their funding paid directly to them as a ‘direct payment’ or ‘personal budget’. It is designed to allow people to employ their own personal assistants and have much greater control over how they are to be looked after in their home.
Many people would like to have a personal budget but find the level of responsibility involved in employing staff quite daunting. Some of our clients have already tried it and found it difficult. At HomeCareDirect, we have designed our service so that we actually employ the personal assistants for clients in a role commonly referred to as a ‘third party’.
Our responsibility as a ‘third party’ is to ensure that our clients have the freedom with their budget to make choices relevant to their support whilst shielding them from the burden and legal worries of being the actual employer of their care team.
HomeCareDirect are also here to help people achieve their health and well-being goals as outlined in their support plan.
HomeCareDirect help people find their own personal assistants, who may be people they already know, by advertising or via our national database of 400+ personal assistants.
HomeCareDirect then employ the personal assistants on the individual or families behalf – so they don’t have to worry about being an employer and train them to CQC standards.
HomeCareDirect also ensure that personal assistants are trained specifically to work with the individual, making sure everything is managed well and fully insured. Furthermore, we’ll set up an individually managed bank account to receive their funding – providing all necessary financial returns to the local authority/NHS.
