Medway NHS Foundation Trust runs the Medway Maritime Hospital, a busy hospital, with over 4,000 staff, treating nearly 500,000 patients every year. Set in the Medway region of Kent, we deliver exciting, inner city medicine in a rural environment.

Induction and mandatory training
Upon starting your employment with the Trust, you will attend a corporate induction to welcome new staff to Medway and also offer an awareness of the Trust’s brand, culture, vision and values. This will be in addition to a local induction in the workplace and will offer an orientation to the organisation and an understanding of how the individual’s role fits with Medway’s strategy and goals.
All staff employed by the Trust will undertake a programme of mandatory training, which must remain up to date.

Learning and Development
The Learning and Development department offer a growing range of workshops and training programmes as we strive to provide the Best of Care through the Best of People.
Our MFT Induction programme includes a welcome session from one of the Executive Directors, a focus on how everyone has a role to play in providing the Best of Care, core skills training and a hospital tour. This programme is compulsory for all new employees and is an opportunity to meet with colleagues and learn more about the Trust.
All staff have a professional and contractual obligation to stay up-to-date with a range of mandatory topics, according to their role, to help to ensure patient safety.
Our new learning management system (LMS), MOLLIE, allows access to your training record anywhere, anytime, via smart phone, tablet device, laptop or desktop, and because it’s self-service, you can book yourself onto classroom sessions, and even complete training on the move.
As well as supporting the mandatory training agenda, the department host a range of punchy, practical and interactive workshops for all staff members who need to build on their knowledge and skills. The Bitesize workshop programme covers a range of topics designed to develop understanding and confidence.
Developing our leaders is an essential part of the L&D offer, helping to ensure we have an effective and supported workforce. Our Management Development Programme is supports the development and learning of people who manage individuals or teams at ward or department level, or specific services within the Trust. In addition, our Coach to Lead programme provides a foundation in learning to apply practical coaching skills that will adapt and develop leadership style.
NVQ courses are also available in Health and Social Care, Clinical Healthcare Support, Paediatrics, Allied Health, Perioperative Care and Maternity.
