ONP Nurses

The dire warning from the government-backed Center for Workforce   Intelligence is that  there is likely to be 47,500 fewer nurses than   required by 2016. The CfWI report concluded  that the most likely   scenario would see a 47,545 shortage of registered nurses  by 2016,   created by a 5% drop in the supply of nurses and a 3% increase in    demand. Many employers are trying to overcome this shortage by having   the  overseas nurses program (ONP).

What is the ONP - overseas nurses program

The NMC checks and verifies that an  applicant is capable of   practising safely and effectively in the UK as a nurse  or midwife and   they assess the applicants qualification, training and  experience   against UK NMC standards.

NMC will check whether the applicant has  undertaken the necessary   post-qualifying practice and experience in each area  of nursing or   midwifery as required for the part of the Register for which they  are   applying.

An overseas qualified nurse must have been  practising as a   registered nurse or midwife for at least 12 months (full-time  or the   part-time equivalent) after qualifying. Also, if the applicant has been    qualified for longer than this, they must have practised for at least   450 hours  in the previous three years. Applicants must also meet NMC's   English language  requirements, with an international English language   test (IELTS) score of 7.0  in the academic version of the IELTS test and   achieve:

At least 7.0 in the listening and reading sections

At least 7.0 in the writing and speaking sections

At least 7.0 (out of a possible 9) overall

The applicant will, separately, be required to meet the full  requirements of the UK’s immigration processes.

On completion of  the NMC's assessment, successful applicants will be   required to undertake 20  days Protected Learning Time (PLT) and a   programme of supervised practice (ONP) for a minimum of three months.

Vostek Ltd can assist potential candidates, by facilitating the NMC    processing and also finding suitable employers where they can undergo   the  supervised practise. Vostek Ltd can do the following for ONP   candidates:

  • Organise Admission in the University.
  •

  •
  • Assistance to lodge visa
  •

  •
