A further opportunity is available for a Macmillan Acute Oncology Cancer of Unknown Primary Nurse Practitioner to work as part of the multidisciplinary team at Hereford county Hospital. The base for this post will be in Macmillan Renton Unit working in collaboration with the existing AOS NP’s and the Systemic anti-cancer treatment NP’s.
The post holder will provide high quality specialist nursing knowledge for patients, their families and other healthcare professionals in the care and treatments associated cancer across a significant part of their pathway. They will act as an autonomous practitioner within Wye Valley NHS Trust making critical clinical decisions independently when assessing, monitoring and managing patients with a malignancy.
The hours available are 22.5 a week on a fixed term basis for 22 months working with the support of a wider team of Nurse Practitioners. Collaborative working in this wider team is expected with some requirement to cross cover to ensure resilience within the service provision.
This is a challenging role and you will need to have excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills and the ability to foster good working relationships, offering care in a kind and compassionate manner. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse with the ability to work autonomously with support from the multi-disciplinary team. You will be able to demonstrate recent experience of caring for patients with cancer and an understanding of current treatment modalities associated with specific cancers and the complexities involved in caring for this group of patients.
There is scope to offer a development opportunity for the right person. If the candidate can demonstrate that they have transferable skills to support the operationalisation of this service under the clinical guidance of the existing AOS/ CUP NP’s then this will be considered.
