CK Group are recruiting for an Analytical Chemist to join the development team of a process optimisation company at their site based in Manchester on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company:
A leading provider of chemical optimisation services to the pharmaceutical industry, this company provides solutions that allow customers to make the best use of their available resources. The Analytical Chemist will be based in the QC department and will work with the QC Manager and Project leaders to undertake analytical projects. The company offers a competitive salary depending on skills and experience, as well as 25 days holiday, pension, various additional benefits and also flexitime. This role would suit an experienced project manager who has a thorough understanding of synthetic organic chemistry as well as having worked in scale up. Some international travel will be required which will be project dependent.

Location:
The Analytical Chemist will be based at the company's site in Manchester which is easily accessible by road from surrounding areas including Ashton-under-Lyne, Rochdale, Stockport, Salford, Oldham amongst others.

Analytical Development Chemist Role:
Your main duties will be:
•To perform qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of various materials (in-process, raw material and finished products) via HPLC and NMR primarily, but also GC, MS, ICP
•Plan project work and communicate timelines
•Maintain accurate records of all work carried out
•To present reports, both written and verbal, to both customers and work colleagues
•To keep up to date with current practices and relevant scientific progress pertinent to the practice of analytical chemistry
•To meet with customers and their representatives as may be required from time to time; this may involve travel to the location of the customer
•Provide solutions where required by the use of techniques such as method development to aid analysis within the QC department
•Assist projects through all stages of development to ensure accurate IPC and final release controls are in place to ensure QC release can be undertaken
•Compile and update as necessary analytical methods and specifications
•Ensure familiarity with all available instrumentation, software systems such as Top spin, Chromeleon CDS and OpenLabs Chemstation
•To help ensure all analytical equipment is maintained to a high standard and is subjected to regular calibration
•To give instruction to other QC and analytical operations staff where necessary

Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
-Qualified degree (BSc) level or equivalent in a Chemistry related vocation - essential, preferably higher (MSc / PhD)
-Proven industry-based analytical chemistry experience with HPLC and NMR - essential, and ideally with GC, MS and ICP
-Experience gained within a GxP environment would be advantageous
-Able to work extended hours on occasions when required
-Sufficiently flexible to be able travel on business if required
-Must be proficient in the use chemical structure drawing and literature searching tools such as Chemdraw, ACD Labs and Reaxys as well as MS Office suite
