The Western Eye Hospital covers North West London and is one of only two standalone eye hospitals in London. Because of our excellent reputation our patients are referred to us from all over the UK and internationally. We like to think of ourselves as one big and happy family where everyone knows everyone. We have roles for you in these departments: Alex Cross ward / day care unit – you would offer full time care to patients and care for A&E patients at night. This is a great role for learning how to deal with a range of ophthalmology conditions.

A&E – this is an exciting frontline role and you will be responsible for making immediate care decisions and preparing admissions. We take referrals from GPs, optometrists, other hospitals and patient self-referrals. Outpatients – you will care patients with a range of ophthalmic conditions. All staff who work in outpatients also rotate and do shifts in our award-winning macula department. We offer primary, secondary and tertiary service to our patients within the following ophthalmic sub specialities: • cornea and external diseases • glaucoma • neuro-ophthalmology • ophthalmic plastic surgery • paediatric ophthalmology • vitreoretinal diseases • ocular oncology • ocular immunology • uveitis • diabetic clinics • macula-retinal • motility • laser • vitreo-retinal Your role will involve assessing, planning and providing nursing care for your patients as well as carrying out various ophthalmic investigations, administering medications and showing patients how to self-administer. If you are ambitious you can work towards the post of sister and we can offer you training to become an advanced practitioner. Our A&E practitioners undergo a two-year development programme and are qualified to see patients independently.
