Cardiology Department, A7/CCU Ward, Hammersmith Hospital
Staff Nurse Band 5
Can you stay calm under pressure?
“My life would surely have been cut short if it were not for the fantastic cardio/thoracic team and all the support functions. Although this is not an experience I would wish to repeat, my stay could not have been better; every member of staff could not have been more helpful, always cheerful and friendly.” ex-patient, July 2018
Our A7/CCU ward is a dynamic, fast-paced and exciting environment offering the opportunity to develop both acute cardiology and respiratory skills. We receive patients directly from the Heart Assessment Centre, London Ambulance Service, tertiary referral hospitals and A&E.
It’s a 27 bed unit incorporating five CCU beds and 22 step down beds. You’ll be looking after Level 2 patients with a number of cardiac conditions.
This is the ideal role for someone with cardiology experience although if you are newly qualified and show drive to learn we are also interested in what you have to offer. You will be expected to be IV competent and able to undertake venepuncture and cannulation (or willing to learn). Undertaking immediate life support is also essential.
Your career goals are important to us and we believe in supporting our staff to develop the career that is right for them. Continuing education (supported by our clinical education team) and professional development are strongly encouraged, with opportunities available to you throughout your career. We offer specialist cardiac courses to all our staff as well as in-house training.
Our team members have an excellent track record for career progression, whether it is into different or more senior nursing roles or into service or business management. We offer strong support networks for preceptorship, mentorship and professional development to ensure you get the very best from your career with us.
