We are looking to enhance our team and are currently recruiting for a Behavioural Specialist to strengthen our operations team.
The behavioural specialist will be involved in the behavioural support of adults who may have learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, autism and/or other associated difficulties, mental health issues or physical disabilities.
The primary role of the behavioural specialist is to impart best practice in supporting individuals who present with challenging behaviour and promoting positive behaviour support across services within the region.
There is the flexibility to make this role your own, to specialise in areas of interest and demand for the business. No day will be the same! You will be joining an established and respected team, operating primarily in the South with occasional travel elsewhere dependent upon need.
You will be covering Kent, East Sussex, London, Croydon, Essex.
Responsibilities:
* Observing behaviour- frequency, severity and duration and examining the possible context (environmental factors and events) in which the challenging behaviour is likely to occur and in which it is less likely to occur and to help ascertain the possible function(s) of the challenging behaviour
* Identifying and assisting with behaviours that may be due to sensory perceptions and providing advice and guidance to staff teams
* Implementing appropriate assessments and strategies, emergency management protocols and person centred planning/working
* Making recommendations re: further requirements
* Auditing of existing support plans
* Assistance with defining therapeutic requirements within individual Service Level Agreement
* Give 'emergency’ support when required
* Assist in behavioural aspects within service users review/CPA reports and attend reviews/CPA meetings as required
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures. May be required to attend meetings with service staff to support and advise on behavioural interventions
* Development of behavioural policies/procedures and tools
Person Specification:
In order to perform this role effectively, the post holder will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
* Experience with Functional Behaviour Assessments and writing Behavioural Support Plans
* Effective communication re: articulation of support and written Behaviour Support Plans
* Expert experience with Autism learning disability, challenging behaviour, and Mental Health client group
* Work on own initiative and as part of a team
* Organisational skills
* Exceptional interpersonal skills (listening, verbal and written communication)
* Strong influencing skills
* Ability to impart best practice in an advisory role
* Presentation Skills (attendance at business development and tendering events may be required)
* Able to use standard applications to process, obtain and combine information e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, mail merge, and databases
* Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to influence and effect culture change within teams
Desirable
An interest in Mental Health or Psychology background welcomed
* Experience of management in a learning disability social care service
* Ability to develop or deliver training
* Eligible to British Psychological Society Membership or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)
* BILD Training such PBS/ Active Support Training/CAPBS
* Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis and willing to work towards BACB (Behaviour Analyst Certification Board)
