Clinical Scientist (HCPC registered in Genetics) - London based role

TEC Partners are pleased to be supporting a digital genomics organisation dedicated to advancing medicine. Using their revolutionary platform, they provide a range of specialist molecular diagnostics tests.

Clinical Scientist role summary:

The successful candidate will assist with providing a comprehensive, modern, high quality Clinical Genetics service for the company at their lab. This will involve delivering a range of specialist molecular diagnostic tests. The post holder will be expected to provide clinical and scientific advice to other health professionals including senior medical staff, on the selection, performance and interpretation of high complex molecular genetic investigations. The post holder will participate in research and development and clinical audit.

In conjunction with the wider company, the applicant will be responsible for overseeing the Quality Management System and maintaining accreditation under ISO 15189:2012, in addition to undertaking the scientific duties and responsibilities of a Clinical Scientist.

Clinical Scientist responsibilities:

To be responsible for the testing, accuracy, and the highest quality of delivery of specialist advanced diagnostic tests
To supervise other scientific and technical staff to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of the highest quality of testing service to patients.
To collaborate with all other members of staff where joint operation is necessary to achieve optimal use of resources.
To liaise with internal and external agencies such as external quality assurance bodies.
To ensure that non-compliances, corrective and preventative actions and other information relevant to quality is reported appropriately.
To deal with enquiries from other healthcare professionals, and to make enquiries to other healthcare professionals, relating to patient and sample information and ascertaining additional clinical details, in an accurate and courteous manner.
To maintain close links with clinical staff and when required, represent the service at multidisciplinary meetings within the company
To liaise and communicate with UKAS re the accreditation of the tests offered
To liaise with laboratory users, to understand their needs and to work with the senior laboratory staff to ensure that services are responsive to changing requirements.
To assist in the documentation and investigation of service delivery issues notified by laboratory users and to ensure relevant departments are informed and appropriate action is taken.
To provide interpretation of the results of highly complex diagnostic investigations and advice that will contribute to patient management.
To undertake appropriate research and development of sound, efficient and cost-effective analytical procedures with the assistance of other staff in the department where required
To pursue research interests of the company both in projects generated within the department and in collaboration with others

Essential requirements:

Health Professions Council registered Clinical Scientist
Demonstrable experience working in a molecular diagnostic laboratory and familiar with molecular genetic testing systems
Experience with Quality Management Systems

Desirables:

Membership of a professional body, e.g. Association for Clinical Genetic Science

Post-graduate degree in a Biomedical Science, with experience in genetics.
