An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen to join our expanding and successful Major Trauma Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

The Major Trauma Service at the Royal Preston Hospital provides critical life and limb saving treatment for patients who have sustained serious traumatic injuries. As the regional Major Trauma Centre we operate within the Lancashire & South Cumbria Major Trauma Network and work collaboratively to ensure our major trauma patients receive the best possible care and outcome.

Nationally it has been recognised that the complexity of major trauma in the elderly requires a focused approach to optimise patient care and treatment. We are therefore looking for a committed and enthusiastic elderly care physician to deliver, innovate and lead the elderly major trauma service at the Major Trauma Centre located at the Royal Preston Hospital.

The main responsibilities of this post will be coordinating and manging the medical care of elderly major trauma patients.

The post allows significant flexibility in maintaining a further subspecialty interest.

This is a great opportunity to improve the care delivered to this vulnerable patient group, transform care pathways and develop the Major Trauma Service.

The Major Trauma Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals has shown the ability to produce big improvements in care delivery over the last few years, the next step being the integration of an elderly care physician within the team. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and maintaining new and existing partnerships within different specialties to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

The successful applicant will join a Major Trauma Service supported by a number of different specialties across the Trust.

Applicants must have suitable training, experience and qualifications in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in trauma and the ability to function autonomously and decisively. Candidates should possess good communication skills and an engaging manner.

As a teaching hospital prospective candidates will have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching as well as any academic interest they may wish to pursue. LTHTR has strong links to Edge Hill University, Lancaster University and the University of Manchester.

You must be fully registered with the GMC license to practice and be on the specialist register (or within 6 months of entry) on the date of the interview.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are - Standard DBS check £30.20 and Enhanced DBS check £48.20. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.
