We currently have a vacant position for a Handyperson to assist the Hospital Engineering team in general maintenance of the building. Covering a variety of duties, this role is responsible for upkeep and repair duties, general maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness across all buildings and departments as assigned by the Engineering Manager.  

Duties will include the following:

 Minor repairs indoor and outdoor across all buildings.
 Check and identify areas for repair and bring these to the Engineering Manager attention.
 Work with engineering manager to carry out monthly defects survey to help plan in works.
 Work with the Engineering manager and department leads to plan works around busy periods.
 To undertake minor repair and maintenance, minor repair of fixtures and fittings including desks, tables and chairs as appropriate.
 Painting and decorating
 Basic external/gardening services, clearing out guttering etc.
 Assist engineers with various 2-person tasks freeing up engineering staff to manage other jobs.
 Other duties to include, but not limited to:
o Minor plumbing and carpentry
o Clearing or cleaning general areas
o Moving furniture or equipment
o Assembling furniture or equipment
o Support for portering team if required
o Medical gas monitoring and change as required
o Back up for Thames Valley and RBH runs

Key skills
 Ability to resolve problems and work unsupervised.
 Adhere to health and safety guidelines
 Being discrete and flexible
 Be organised, focused and self-motivated
 Be flexible with regards to working hours as some weekend work may be required
 Able to work as part of a team
 Good communication skills, interacting with people and working cohesively with them
 Physically capable of moving equipment

Qualifications, Training and Experience
The jobholder must be organised and have the ability to carry out general repairs without guidance. They must be able to manage their own work and time effectively, have good time keeping, planning & communication skills, and the ability to follow and comply with instructions on equipment and / or materials usage. A full clean driving licence is essential.
