We are developing our future strategy, which will focus on providing the highest quality mental health and learning disability services.

As part of this, our community (physical health) services in Bury, Oldham, Rochadale (adult services) and Trafford will be moving to a new NHS Provider in 2019. For Bury, Oldham, Rochdale (adult services) this will take place on 1 July 2019.

We have been very proud to run community (physical health) services over the last seven years, but we believe there are other provider organisations better positioned to enable these community services to achieve more for the benefit of local people. We are working closely with our staff and colleagues in the new provider organisations to ensure the smoothest possible transfer.

The role is to provide daily care for the needs of elderly patients in a holistic way. Ensuring they are washed and dressed. Diet and fluids are maintained, patients are supported and encouraged to take part in therapeutic activities to improve their quality of time spent in the hospital environment.

The role of the Support Worker is to support the qualified staff in the daily running of the ward and actively taking part in the planning of care for each client, whilst maintaining a safe environment for the patient.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supporting the patients and assisting with all activities of daily living.
  • Helping to maintain and monitor the patient’s nutrition and fluid balance.
  • Taking physical observations and recording the findings appropriately.
  • Being involved in patient activities.
  • Observing patients and supporting the MDT to effectively manage risk
  • Participating in life story work, and reminiscence therapy.
  • Some cleaning and maintaining of the ward environment will be required
  • Supporting the nursing and medical teams to carry out their role.
  • Maintaining the safety and well being of the patients.
  • Liaising with other professionals and relatives.
  • Maintaining confidentiality

All new starters to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust who are appointed to a post which requires a Disclosure Barring Certificate check (DBS) will be recharged for the full cost of the check. Substantive staff can choose to spread the cost over their first three months’ salary or pay the full amount from their first months’ salary. Members to the Trust bank must repay the full amount from their first pay. The Trust encourages all staff and bank workers to register with the DBS update service at an annual cost of £13, for bank members this is obligatory. The cost of an enhanced DBS check is £44 and for a standard check £26, both attract an administration charge of £3.50.
