Healthcare Assistant - Stroud, Gloucestershire

Your new company



You will be working with a leading health and care charity who work with individuals, families that are affected by drugs, alcohol, crime, homelessness, domestic abuse and antisocial behaviour. Working hours are: Mon- Fri 9-5pm.

Your new role

Undertake initial basic healthcare assessments and record in electronic and paper-based case notes as required.
Initiate, complete and follow up on referrals to specialist care and report outcomes to Health & Wellbeing Nurse, Cluster Lead Nurse and service Medical Officer as required.
Screen for blood borne viruses and contribute to integrated care planning to assure effective referrals to Hepatology and Sexual Health services to enable assessment for specialist treatment. Support the provision of pre and post blood borne virus test discussion
Undertake dried blood spot testing and whole blood taking (phlebotomy) procedures as required. Ensure blood samples are stored correctly and collected for transportation to laboratory
Maintain required standards of infection control and hygiene as per the company's policies and procedures.
Provide evidence-based harm reduction services, including needle exchange.
Assist and carry out appropriate screening processes including urine and saliva tests.
Liaise with and take direction from other healthcare professionals, including Nurses, Medical Officers
Provide support for home-based treatments. Provide education and support to patients and their families
Produce relevant reports.

What you'll need to succeed

Knowledge of general office procedures.
Experience of drug & alcohol treatment services or other similar background
Be IT literate
Have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work flexibly as part of a team.
Have good organisational skills
Have knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults' procedures.
Have knowledge of the issues facing substance mis-users including appropriate medical interventions, social care and health issues.
Be able to work with and manage challenging behaviour
Have access to own transport
