Homecare & Procurement Clinical Pharmacist – AfC band 8a (Fixed Term up to 12 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacist to work with the wider pharmacy and multidisciplinary team to provide professional oversight of the medicines homecare service (9000 patients) and lead on medicines shortages. The post is fixed term as the existing post holder is going on maternity leave.

Building on your previous experience, you will be a well-organised, innovative and committed pharmacist with an interest in medicines homecare and procurement (including medicines shortages) and a track record of working as part of a team to deliver high quality services. You will have: broad based hospital pharmacy experience, a good level of knowledge of medicines homecare and procurement issues (preferably with experience of working in these areas); broad clinical pharmacy experience with a clinical pharmacy diploma (or equivalent experience) and experience of service and staff management in an operational capacity.

Good leadership, communication and negotiation skills; well-developed team working and communication skills; and an enthusiastic, flexible and professional approach are all essential.  

The UCLH pharmacy homecare team manages medicines homecare for 9000 patients across a range of specialties including HIV, neurology, haematology, rheumatology and gastroenterology. The pharmacy homecare team is made up of 6 wte and works closely with the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and high quality provision of homecare to these patients.

The pharmacy procurement team operates out of a centralised MHRA licensed pharmacy warehouse and provides a medicines procurement and distribution service across UCLH and to a number of external customers. Integral to this service is the effective manage of medicines shortages which need careful management to avoid minimise risk to patients. As the professional lead for managing medicines shortages, you will work closely with pharmacy colleagues in clinical, formulary and procurement teams and clinicians in relevant clinical teams to formulate, agree and implement strategies to manage medicines shortages safely and effectively.
