Our values and quality improvement are at the heart of everything we do, please consider joining us.

Mental Health Practitioner – Registered Mental Health Nurse

NHS AfC: Band 6

Permanent Full time 37.5 hours per week.

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust is responsible for providing mental health services for people of all ages across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, as well as providing some specialist services across the whole of North London and beyond.

Since January 2011, the Trust also provides adult and children’s community health services in Enfield, following the transfer of Enfield Community Services from NHS Enfield. Please note - Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust will only accept on-line application forms.

North London Forensic Service is rated OUTSTANDING by the CQC and we have partly achieved this rating by recruiting outstanding staff and offering them unrivalled career and training opportunities.

We are currently recruiting for staff into our prison healthcare services based in south London within HMP Brixton. This a Category C resettlement prison with an operational capacity of approximately 800 spaces including a significant number of older adults. The mental health team within the prison is multidisciplinary in nature and consists of nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists and works with those prisoners with both primary and secondary care mental health needs.

As part of this team we are looking to provide an |Enhanced Support Service to work with a small caseload of the most complex and challenging men held within the prison under the direction of a Psychologist. The successful applicant will assist in identifying those who would benefit from engagement with the team and then consider appropriate interventions.

Although it would be beneficial, you do not need to have had previous experience in working in a prison setting as a thorough local induction and training package will be provided. What you will also need is a professional qualification in nursing and at least 2 years’ experience at a Band 5 level; most importantly is for you to have both the desire and ability to work compassionately with complex men who are often in acute distress and difficult to engage and many of whom would meet the clinical threshold for a diagnosis of personality disorder. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a calm disposition, resilience and the ability to negotiate and work in partnership with other agencies and the prison is also required.

Free use of gymnasium and staff subsidised restaurant are available on site for staff to use.

Interview Date: TBC
