Fixed Term - Full time - 15 hours per week. 12 month fixed term contract, maternity cover. Working 7.5hrs in Heather Grange and 7.5hrs in Belvedere Manor. MHA is a large national charity that enables people to live later life well. Music therapy is one of the charity's initiatives to help achieve this, particularly, for people living with dementia. The MHA music therapy service, which featured in the BBC TV programme Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure, was developed through our PhD (Hsu, Flowerdew, Parker et al., 2015) and clinical research (Mangiacotti, Hsu, Barone et al., 2019). The service aims to enhance quality of life and help personalise care in care homes. Over the years, we have continued to engage in research for patient benefit and have ongoing collaboration with the universities in the UK and EU. The music therapy practice at MHA is evidence-based and informed by several disciplines. These include cognitive psychology, affective neuroscience, up-to-date research in dementia care (prevention, diagnosis, long-term care, end of life care and support for carers) and the emerging theories of psychosocial interventions. Therefore, we are seeking a Music Therapist to cover an area of care homes who endeavor to upscale their knowledge and skills through our specialist training which is informed by the above disciplines. The ability to communicate effectively and work flexibly as part of the multidisciplinary team in care homes is essential. Applicants are advised to refer to MHA's proof of concept study: Hsu, Flowerdew, Parker, Fachner & Odell-Miller (2015). Individual music therapy for managing neuropsychiatric symptoms for people with dementia and their carers: a cluster randomised controlled feasibility study. BMC geriatrics, 15(1), p.1. and Hsu, M. H. (2016). Caregivers' dual role in music therapy to manage neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia (pp. 120-144). In J. Strange, H. Odell-Miller & E. Richards (Eds), Collaboration and assistance in music therapy practice, London: Jessica Kingsley publishers. For more information about the role please review the attached Job Description. Please note that interviews may take place prior to the advert closing as and when suitable applications are received. If a suitable candidate is appointed the role may close early, therefore please do not hesitate to submit your application. Agencies: Please note, MHA do not accept unsolicited CV's from any agencies, regardless of whether they are on our Preferred Supplier List (PSL) or not. We only accept CV's from agencies that have been appointed and briefed by MHA's central Talent Acquisition Team.
