LOCATION: Glasgow SALARY: Dependent on experience

We are currently looking to recruit a NTCO and Compliance Manager on behalf of our client to be part of an outstanding institute and leading cancer research centre. This position is fundamental to the in vivo research conducted at the institute and requires someone who has the confidence, knowledge, and experience of working in a fast-paced in vivo research environment.

Based within the vibrant city of Glasgow, the role offers a challenge to work in a key position within the Management Team to ensure a large team of researchers working with animals are adequately educated, trained, and supervised.

Essential Requirements:

* Degree in biological based sciences or significant previous NTCO experience, ideally in a cancer research environment.

* Previous experience in training, teaching or being in a supervisory role.

* A thorough knowledge of the Animal Scientific Procedures Act (1986) and the EU Directive 2010/63/EU.

* Hold a Home Office Licence and experience performing regulated procedures.

* Have previous practical experience working with rodents and can perform and understand sampling and dosing techniques.

* Practical knowledge of legislation, rules and regulations and application of these in a busy biological services unit.

* Able to produce concise written materials for training, admin and monitoring purposes.

* Excellent communication skills and ability work with staff at all levels.

* Competent in use of IT applications, processes and software.

Key Responsibilities:

* Participate in competency training under ASPA and advise individuals how supervision and assessment of competence is managed.

* Working with the management team to ensure all staff are appropriately trained and that processes, outputs, and facilities are aligned with user expectations, agreed service levels, and comply with relevant regulations.

* To engage with researchers and manage the BSU interface on a daily basis, ensuring that project licences are understood, and all statutory and legal processes are followed.

* To support and listen to BSU users and provide a mechanism to raise issues, concerns and find solutions.

* To assist all personal licence applications on the Home Office electronic licencing system, ASPeL.

* To advise and guide individuals on any training they require for licence authority and on any practical training and supervision required following receipt of that authority.

* To identify trainers for specialist procedures or techniques.

* To promote, by example, the highest standards of ethical commitment by influencing staff and PIL holders in maintaining a culture of care and animal welfare.

* To liaise with the Home Office Inspector during visits when required.

* To produce and maintain SOP/DOP’s and health and safety records including risk assessments as required by the institute, as well as maintaining excellent training records.

* To provide advice for any animal management infringements through proper investigation and reporting of outcomes and action plans.
