A leading developer of Photonic and Optic products is now looking for an Optical Project Engineer to join their Photonics Team.

Working with the Photonics Team, you will be contributing to design projects, which will see you working in a number of projects at any one time, interacting with Production and Customers to ensure customer requirements are met.

Working across the projects you will expand your personal knowledge base as required by those projects.

You will be expected to produce detailed designs of optical systems including system performance, components and materials selection, thermal considerations, optical design and opto-mechanical stability.

Through the design and development process you will investigate tolerances and write specifications for systems.

Working with customers, you will design optical systems that are within customer restrictions and meet design for manufacture considerations. This will include design, build and characterisation of prototypes and proof-of-concept experiments.

You will also select and/or design optical components to achieve customer requirements.

It is expected that you will be hands on development of designs through alpha, beta and pilot production phase. Including supporting NPI with early production batches

Within projects you will provide technical expertise and/or take the role of Technical Lead.


As the successful Optical Engineer, you will be qualified to a minimum of a Masters Degree in in a relevant Physics / Optics / Photonics / Lasers / Engineering discipline.


In addition to your Masters or higher, you should have gained experience in a commercial product design and development environment.

It is essential that you have solid experience in precision optics, lasers and optical fibres, along with experience in optical setup design.

Additional Information:
