A multinational professional manufacturer with cutting edge technology products and ambitious organic growth plans; is seeking a Principal Scientist to work with a high multi-skilled team of R&D scientists and engineers, to develop, support and test a range of technically leading electronic consumable products.

With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will deliver research programs internally and draw upon third party expertise to ensure substantiation of products performance supported by scientific claims.

Building value, you will mentor a team of two where you will support and demonstrate understanding in the analysis and interpretation of test results and coaching in correct experimental methods and practices.

Ideally you will possess a minimum of 2:1 degree or PhD in physics, chemistry, material or engineering science disciplines or similar calibre with a good understanding in thermodynamics in relation to heat transfer and/or air flow manipulation to support scientific R&D claims.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering your key responsibilities include:

Research & development

*

Generate understanding and knowledge of science and innovative new product development

*

Early stage development and testing of new technology in heating and air control

*

Support the creation of intellectual property and patented technology

*

Deliver published scientific papers from the on going quantitative and qualitative research into organic

material

*

Communicate understanding and knowledge in product science

*

Co-develop product claims with the marketing team, based on science to build the product value

proposition

*

Support the transfer of the product science methodologies to repeatable engineering design and

production process methods

New product development process

*

Align with Project Managers on project status, development and deliverables

*

Lead the scientific claims feasibility and substantiation testing of products to meet Marketing

requirements

*

Provide product claim support for the continuous improvement of current products as part of product

lifecycle management

Test method design & support

*

Design and development of product test rigs for lab and manufacture testing, including use of LabVIEW

*

Development of methods for product testing and analysis to support market claims and quality control Line Management

*

Line manage, lead and work alongside a team of scientists and lab support staff

*

Lead and work alongside external consultants

This opportunity will expose you to a number of new technologies at various stages of development. Ideally you will be a trained physicist with a materials processing background or materials degree working within consumer product and UK mains voltage lab environment. You will have exceptional planning and organising skills working within timescales and building strong relationships within a multisite organisation with occasional travel to Leeds, London, China, EU and North America
