Providing a clean and safe drinking water supply is one of the most important responsibilities of the business and the Public Health and Standards team are at the forefront of this vital role. Investigating water quality issues, providing technical advice to stakeholders across the business and keeping our customers informed are all essential parts of the role. You will also support the wider business by providing expert water quality advice during the delivery of major capital schemes and through undertaking audits focussing on water supply hygiene. As a senior advisor, you will help provide 24/7 water quality support to the business through the Public Health and Standards team duty desk and you will need to be flexible to take part in weekend working and out of hours standby cover as part of a rota. In return, this role will allow you to develop a thorough understanding of the clean water business and to build relationships with stakeholders across the organisation. Whilst full training in all aspects of the role will be provided, having a good core knowledge of the clean water business alongside basic principles of water treatment and distribution will stand you in excellent stead. As a Senior Water Quality Advisor, your key skills and competencies will include:
Investigating and resolving water quality issues and providing expert advice to stakeholders across the business both reactively in response to water quality issues and proactively in relation to planned work whilst ensuring that public health is protected at all times. Providing the day to day interface between the business and public health professionals within local health authorities. Ensuring day to day compliance with all aspects of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations. Taking personal ownership to ensure customers are kept fully up to date on progress with investigating and resolving any water quality problems. Supporting with wider business through participation in a range of audit and assurance activities. Experience required in order to succeed in this role it is expected that you will have:
Essential: Degree or equivalent in a scientific or engineering subject Full Driving License Desirable: Membership of a relevant professional body (CIWEM, IWO etc.) Severn Trent benefits include:
