Registered Mental Nurse (Night Shifts) – Borehamwood

Salary: £35-45,000 – Pension, wellness programmes, progression, store discounts, casual dress

Client

My client is an inpatient hospital working with a mixed patient group of patients with psychosis and others with personality disorder.

Role

We are interested in candidates who have an interest in Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT), and/or of working with patients who have a diagnosis of personality disorder. The successful candidate will become an integral member of our dedicated clinical team, attending MDTs and CPAs as the primary nurse for their patients.

The shifts will be permanent nights, all being 20:00 – 08:30 with a 1-hour break. The shift pattern is: Week 1 Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday Week 2 Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Education / Qualification:

* Professional Mental Health Nursing qualification

* A good basic education with competent written and verbal English

* Registered with the NMC

* Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience/Knowledge:

Proven intervention skills for a wide range of behavioural and emotional problems.

Demonstrable experience of working in a healthcare/ inpatient/ rehabilitation environment

Demonstrable experience of working with patients with severe and enduring mental ill health and/ or challenging behaviour

Experience of/ willingness to participate in group activities, therapeutic, educative and social

IT literate

Main Duties

Be involved in the implementation and maintenance of The Hospital’s quality assurance programme

Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of care and nursing implementation and delivery

Work in cooperation with members of multi-disciplinary health teams to maximize opportunities for patient therapeutic care

Ensure that patients’ rights are protected

Encourage a model of self-care and patient rehabilitation

Evaluate Care Plans

Evaluate standards of care and nursing competence

Ensuring a high standard in the application of clinical nursing/ care procedures and treatments

Administering prescribed medications in accordance with local and NMC guidelines

Building trust and developing relationships to ensure patients’ involvement in all aspects of their treatment

Developing, implementing, reviewing care plans, ensuring that any changes and / or observations in the patient’s condition/ needs are adhered to within the scope of the CPA

Ensuring a whole care treatment package is applied to each patient, including their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing

When requested, to prepare for, participate in and attend ward rounds, CPA’s and other multi-disciplinary meetings

Assisting and encouraging patients to develop daily living and social skills

Developing/ Participating/ facilitating group, recreational and social activities

Escorting patients to various therapeutic/ treatment programmes as indicated by their care plan. These may be internal and external to Cornerstone House

Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team

Establishing and maintaining good relationships with carers, family members and colleagues

Identifying factors which have a positive and negative effect on the patient’s mental, physical health and general well-being

Enabling patients to view/ understand/ reflect on their strengths and weaknesses to promote their recovery and social inclusion

Identifying signs that may indicate that patients are at risk either to others or to themselves and report these concerns to the relevant staff members

Ensuring that all legislative and statutory requirements are followed including the continual updating of mandatory trainings

Ensuring the patients’ rights are maintained and protected under the Mental Health Act

Liaise with colleagues to find ways to optimise and improve services, identifying resources as required

Ensure that agreed policies and procedures are followed

Oversee the effective admission/discharge of all patients in conjunction with the nurse managers

Ensure all social and health needs of the patients are assessed and risks evaluated. To monitor the planning and on-going evaluation of patient’s care, including specific therapeutic intervention

Act as primary nurse to designated patents

To be responsible for the implementation of risk assessment and to embed clinical governance practices

To ensure that all patients within the hospital have a full, and correctly implemented, person-centred care plans in accordance with the CPA process and patient risk assessments

To monitor and participate in the evaluation of the standards of care and practice provided in the hospital in consultation with staff and the multi­ disciplinary team

To effectively communicate sensitive information to patients and/or relatives and carers concerning the physical and/or psychological condition of the patient

Supervise visits and liaise with GP's in order to establish a good relationship between the GP's / Health Care Professionals and the Hospital

Laisse with the Mental Health Act Manager/Administrator regarding status of detained patients
