* To assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care for residents.
* To provide skilled nursing care of a high standard and to supervise other members of the nursing team in the delivery of care.
NURSING HOME IMAGE
The Staff Nurse is expected to project the desired image to residents, relatives, visitors, clinicians and other colleagues by:
* Attitude when communicating with others on the unit, within the home or by telephone.
* General attitude to work, procedures and requests from other areas within the home.
* Appearance of the Unit/Home, ensuring that all staff contribute to cleanliness and tidiness during the day and at night.
* Personal appearance. Uniform will be worn correctly, with hair in a tidy style. Flat shoes will be worn. For female staff – flat shoes, tights or stockings will be worn. For male staff – smart trousers in grey, navy or black with polished shoes will be worn.
SECURITY AGAINST THEFT, FIRE AND OTHER HAZARDS
* Ensure the physical safety of residents under his/her control is not jeopardised by an act or omission to act.
* Take active steps to prevent theft of resident’s belongings, nursing home equipment and personal belongings.
* Attend fire lectures and fire drill.
* To ensure that statutory requirements and codes of good practice in connection with food, hygiene and moving and handling are maintained.
* To abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice.
* To work within the UKCC Code of Professional Conduct and the North & Mid
Hants Health Authority Nursing Homes standards.
* To advise on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
* To recognise and act appropriately to situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individual.
* To maintain good communication of working relationships with all health professionals whilst maintaining loyalty to the Nursing Home.
* To create an environment that is conductive to the satisfactory reception and
discharges (where appropriate) of residents and their relatives/carers.
* To be responsible, in the absence of a Sister/Charge Nurse for the custody, ordering when required and storage of all drugs within the Nursing Home according to legal requirements and the UKCC Administration of Medicines Standards.
* To produce and work to agreed written standards of nursing care and ensure that they are met.
* To be responsible for the maintenance of residents case notes, computerised or written.
* To be aware of current advances in nursing care and where possible, to incorporate nursing research into care plans and to contribute towards nursing resource file.
* To carry clinical responsibility for the whole nursing home if senior nurse on duty
* To carry continuing responsibility for the Unit in the absence of Sister/Charge
* To work to both The Nursing Home and North & Mid Hants Health
Authority Nursing Home Standards, and ensure these are implemented.
* To ensure that effective reporting takes place.
* To deploy and supervise staff effectively, and to teach new Care Assistants, to act as Mentor and Assessor to student nurses where required.
* To ensure that resident confidentiality is maintained at all times.
* To aid in the maintenance of staff morale and discipline.
* Any other duties as directed by Matron.
* To attend staff meetings, seminars and training programmes as appropriate.
* To have regular appraisal and performance review
