Job Description

We are looking for a Band 7 Clinical Scientist to join a team of three other Clinical Scientists and a Chemical Pathologist in this friendly and busy laboratory that offers a Biochemistry service to Poole and the Royal Bournemouth hospitals. Poole hospital is in a beautiful coastal location in Dorset and is surrounded by sandy beaches and delightful countryside.

The laboratory is part of the One Dorset Pathology network and there are exciting times ahead including plans for a state of the art hub laboratory and the replacement of the main automated analysers. The department has close links with Endocrinology and Haematology and has a very large and interesting myeloma caseload.

You will participate in the clinical authorisation of endocrine results and the interpretation of protein results by capillary zone electrophoresis. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of the laboratory and will be encouraged to take responsibility for a specific area of the laboratory. As your experience develops you will have opportunities to develop your role and will be expected to assist in maintaining the laboratory's UKAS accreditation. You will be encouraged and supported to sit the FRCPath examinations.

You must have completed the STP specialist training portfolio and ideally will be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist but we welcome applicants who are coming to the end of their three year training programme.

Please note: if this job requires you to have a DBS check to enable you to properly fulfil the requirements of the job, on appointment you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check and this amount will be reclaimed from your salary.
