A Market Skills Supplement of £2,000 per annum (pro rata) will be offered to the successful candidate. 

An exciting opportunity at RAFLeeming for a C2 Social Worker has arisen.

The successful candidate will provide effective Mental Health Social Work in support of a designated Department of Community Mental Health, Defence Mental Health Social Work Service and the wider Defence Mental Health Services. You will contribute to the development of service delivery, suggesting developmental initiatives in support of observations.

In accordance with Department of Community Mental Health allocation processes and practices you will manage patient caseloads as directed by the clinical team lead and the Mental Health Social Work Regional Lead.

Our chosen candidate will also support the management of the Department of Community Mental Health by providing direct delivery advice for Mental Health Social Work to the Department of Community Mental Health manager (single post locations) or the Mental Health Social Work Regional Lead (dual post locations).

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to;

  • Practice as lead Mental Health Social Work (MHSW) practitioner for social work interventions, including therapeutic interventions, in support of the holistic management of mental health patients within the Departments of Community Mental Health.

  • Provide reports for and attend Mental Health Tribunals (MHT), as directed by MHT chair.

  • Practice as lead clinician for the social work assessments of patients, their home circumstances and relationships, providing reports to support the patient’s care management plan.

  • Recognise own limits of competence and seek clinical supervision and/or advice as appropriate.

  • Accountability for the standard of Mental Health Social Work care provided to the client group.

  • Undertake research, as required and within guidelines, in Mental Health Social Work to support the development of the Department of Community Mental Health and Defence Primary Health Care Service.

  • Undertake audits in own clinical area to identify improvements to the service.

  • Provide psycho-social and social care education to Defence primary health care staff to enhance their capability to manage mental healthcare issues and to support their responsibilities in addressing the mental health of all personnel.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas relating to mental health social work practice and in the promotion of the well-being to patients, professional colleagues, commanders and where appropriate unit personnel.

Qualifications & Memberships

As the successful candidate you must;

  • Be an appropriately qualified and experienced Mental Health Social Work Practitioner which must be within Mental Health services.

  • Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Scottish Social Services Council, The Care Council for Wales or Northern Ireland Social Care Council.

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent DipSW/CQSW

  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • An understanding and working knowledge of all relevant social care legislation – MHA (83), MCA (05) Inc DOLS, Care Act 14, ECHR (98) Adult and Children Safeguarding Policies.

Travel is required so our chosen candidate will need a full, valid driving licence,

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

All employees joining the Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) which is effective from the start date of employment.

Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.
