Working within the Assessment and Short Term Intervention (ASTI) team, you will be focused on overseeing children and their families that have been referred to us by the safeguarding teams. This means you will undertake assessments including child protection enquiries, and will suggest solutions to protect children in need and those at immediate risk. If longer-term care is needed you will oversee the smooth transition to the relevant teams. As Birmingham is a hugely diverse and multi-cultural city with various inner-city challenges and social deprivation issues, you will thrive on the fact that you are making an active difference to these children's lives - one step at a time.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
An experienced social worker with an approved qualification, you will be able to deal with families in need and at times of intense crisis. As such, you will have fantastic verbal and written communication skills and the ability to make clear, evidence-based decisions about the safety of children. With great organisational skills and willing to work flexibly, you will forge close relationships with partner agencies and have a good understanding of key legislation. Your experience of supporting vulnerable children and knowledge of working alongside statutory and voluntary agencies will prove invaluable, as will your resilient 'can do' attitude.
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
As part of our commitment to ensuring you achieve your full professional capabilities, you'll benefit from furthering your skills and knowledge with Birmingham's Career Progression Pathway for Social Workers in Children's Services. Working under the umbrella of the University of Birmingham, this is a mix of current theoretical thinking, evidence based practice and workplace skills - helping you to ensure you're always on the right career path.
