The Cellular Pathology Department at Southmead Hospital is well equipped, housed in modern buildings, accredited by UKAS to ISO15189 and approved by IBMS for training. It provides a comprehensive service (Histopathology, Cytopathology and Immunohistochemistry) to the Trust, local GPs and other centres in the south west. The work is varied and covers the majority of clinical specialties with the exception of neuropathology and ophthalmic pathology.
As a result of expanding activity, the Histopathology section has created a new Band 6 Biomedical Scientist post and is looking to appoint a HCPC registered individual with recent experience in histology. Applicants will need to be able to evidence knowledge and competency at a specialist level through attainment of IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent.
All applicants will need to be enthusiastic and well motivated and demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a team. Applications would be particularly welcomed from individuals with an interest in taking a role as a training officer.
CPD is actively encouraged and supported and there is opportunity for training and both within the department and externally.
This is a full time, permanent post (37.5 hours per week). The laboratory currently operates 7.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday and applicants will need to be flexible meet the needs of the service. This includes regular Saturdays and working until 6.00 pm (weekdays) on a rota basis.
