Job Description

About our Trust

Our Trust is rated as ‘Outstanding for Caring’ by the CQC – fundamental to this is the way that we value and respect our staff. At every level, we value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We believe that everyone without exception should feel free to be their authentic self in the workplace.

We understand that work is only one part of life. We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve the best possible work/life balance. We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it.

Our Trust is already a Disability Confident employer and we are holding ourselves to account through the Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES). Our work on promoting equity and inclusion for our Black, and Minority Ethnic (BME) colleagues continues to be driven by engagement with the WRES (Workforce Race Equality Standard) and the WRES Experts Programme.

In 2019, we committed ourselves to becoming a Stonewall Top 100 LGBTQ+ Employer. We also support the national ‘Veteran Aware’ scheme and are an ERS Silver accredited Hospital who welcomes applications from all members of the Armed Forces communities.

For our patients, we do everything we can to deliver fair access to all our services. This includes providing interpretative and other services to meet the needs of disabled communities. We're careful to show sensitivity towards ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Our staff uphold these values and so help our care to get better all the time.

Is your passion giving excellent care? Are you career minded with drive and enthusiasm? Do you enjoy playing a key role within the multidisciplinary team in acute care? Can you make everyone feel welcomed, respected, cared for and reassured that they are always in safe hands because you are communicating clearly and offering excellent person centred care?

If you answer yes, then we're looking for you to join us at Newhaven Ward.

The post will be based at Newhaven Community Ward, which is on the site of the old Newhaven Downs Hospital. The unit is for patients who no longer require acute hospital care but need further skilled nursing and therapeutic support such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy before leaving NHS inpatient care altogether. A team of nurses, therapists, doctors and support staff will care for 23 patients in the newly refurbished ward, supporting them to recover before they move on.

Applicants for this role will have a keen interest in caring for complex discharge patients, combined with an ability to provide care in a compassionate and dignified manner. The successful applicant will be numerate and literate, with excellent communication skills. The post holder needs to work well within a team and be able to work with a wide variety of staff to maintain standards in line with Trust and NMC guidelines.

You will be supported by the senior nursing team and professional development team. You will be given a local ward induction, a trust induction and access to a robust preceptorship programme aimed at supporting you to develop in the first few months of starting. There is also ongoing support through regular appraisals, competency based learning, and relevant study days. Continuing education and professional development are strongly encouraged and opportunities will be made available for the successful applicant as we work closely with our Higher Education partners to support nurses reach their full potential. The department actively engages a variety of Post-Registration courses.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to be a part of something special.
