Job Description

WHIPPS CROSS UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

NURSING OPPORTUNITIES

OUTPATIENTS DEPARTMENT

Staff Nurse Band 5 Full Time

Whipps Cross University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust and provides a full range of local hospital services to a local population of around 450,000 people. This vacancy is within the Outpatient Department which receive around 300,000 appointments a year.

The Outpatient Department at Whipps Cross University Hospital is looking for a staff nurse to help deliver a high standard of evidence based patient focused care, whose primary aim is to successfully deliver the overall NHS objectives.

You must be flexible to cover all clinic sessions held morning, afternoon and evenings on a rota basis. We are unable to offer fixed working patterns or set days due to the needs of the service. At the present time clinics are held Monday to Friday but you should be prepared to work weekends on an ad hoc basis if required. Outpatients is not a 9 to 5 department. Staff are required to work 2 late shifts a week and are to remain until the last patient leaves the department when working the late shifts. Lieu time is given when staff exceed their contracted hours

You should apply if you enjoy working within all areas of the OPD settings at Whipps Cross and at either of the out reach clinics at Loughton and Chingford as required. Being such a large Trust we have a wide range of specialities. Staff are able to rotate to specialist areas including ENT Orthopaedic Medicine and Surgery, which is ideal for someone who wants to continue to develop their skills. Other opportunities include link nurse roles and becoming involved in developmental projects.

We are looking for staff who work well within a team and with different disciplines, offering support and assistance to colleagues and patients and who want to go the extra mile.

Applicants need to have good communication and organisation skills, preferably with a proven record of working within an Outpatient or similar department.

Outpatients is a changing environment and will offer you an exciting opportunity to use all your skills when dealing with the public.
