We have an exciting opportunity to work with young people (aged 16+) with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) as a Support Worker, at an award-winning Residential College.About the job:You will be providing residential, educational, and therapeutic support to students with autism, enabling them to gain greater independence and confidence for later life. This role is largely based around providing care in the residential environment, however you will also be involved across all areas of the College, including working alongside lecturers in classrooms, clinical services staff, and the wider community.Each young person is offered individually tailored and holistic programmes of support, and you will be responsible for enthusiastically encouraging and promoting the development of independence and transferable life skills. You will work in partnership with a fantastic multidisciplinary team, as well as care co-ordinators and students’ families.You will ensure the highest quality of care is provided to service users through person-centred care plans, and will be required to support individuals with personal care and challenging behaviours. Above all you will treat individuals with dignity, compassion and honesty to help them fulfill their potential.Whether you are looking for a company that offers serious progression opportunities, or looking to take the first step into Support Work, this could be the perfect job for you. Promotions are usually made from within, with most Managers having started as Support Workers, so there is real career progression to be made here.Working hours:Shift patterns are usually a mixture of days (7.45am - 8pm) and nights (8pm-7.45am).Support Workers will work 14 shifts per month (including 2 in 4 weekends) on a 4 week rota.For applicants looking to work more around term-times, please enquire about our Learning Support Assistant roles working within the College setting.Salary & Benefits:Salary is £19,000 per annum / £9.50 per hour, with benefits including: * Opportunities for overtime bonuses (monthly and 6 monthly) * 21 days’ annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays * Career succession planning * Excellent training and development * Paid-for DBS checkJob Requirements:Experience in the care sector is desirable, but life experience is also very much welcomed. We are looking for people with: * the enthusiasm and drive to enrich individuals’ lives * excellent communication skills * a desire to learnThis can be a challenging role, so experience with challenging behaviours would be preferred/an advantage, however extensive training will be provided.
