We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated support worker to join the team at this service providing support for adults with learning disabilities and associated health needs.

Highbury House supports individuals with Autism, moderate to severe learning disabilities and complex needs. The people we support here enjoy listening to Michael Jackson, watching the Greatest Showman, visiting the cinema to watch their favourite films and visiting the local shops for a spot of clothes shopping!

Fernlea supports adults with learning disabilities and Autism. This service is outcome focused and encourages the development of life skills. We work closely with the individuals we support to integrate them within the wider community. The people we support of Fernlea enjoy listening to wide variety genres of music, and musical theatre, they especially enjoy canal trips, visiting the zoo and watching their favourite football teams, not forgetting to mention visiting the seaside regularly for day's out.

Barra House is an Autism Specific Service and all staff here have received Autism Awareness training.

Our wonderful staff teams across all three of our local sites really do go the extra mile to ensure the people we support make the most of each and every day.

Due to the nature of the role you may be required to work across the three local sites, so with this in mind, a driver with access to your own vehicle would be desirable, but it is not essential.

Main responsibilitiesThe people we support are at the heart of everything we do - they are wonderful individuals and deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and choice. Our main priority, therefore, is to find support workers with values, behaviours and attitudes to match our own.

Could this be you?

Your duties will be varied and no two days will be the same. You'll be providing support for day-to-day living, such as social activities, sports and hobbies, employment, holidays etc along with support with general household duties such as cooking, cleaning and money management. In some services, you may be required to undertake personal care.

Ideal candidateWe believe that a successful Support Worker doesn't always have experience, but shares our vision to ensure that 'every moment has potential' for the people we support to learn new skills and to achieve their goals.

Basic numeracy and literacy skills as well as good English are a must, as well as:

Willingness to achieve (training) in line with regulations
Proficient in IT; Word, Outlook, Internet
Participation in a wide range of activities with the people we support in the service and community
Willingness to provide a range of care, relating to individual care plans including personal care
Ability to work within policy, process and systems of work e.g. medication management
Professional manner and presentation
Good spoken and written English ability to record information accurately
Flexibility to work unsociable hours e.g. early morning, evening, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rota basis (as allocated by your manager)
Use own initiative and be able to multi-task
Work well in a team environment
Manage own stress levels
Communicate tasks effectively
Ability to managing conflict

An NVQ/Diploma L2 or 3 in Health and Social Care and some experience in care work would be an added bonus, but we have a fantastic in-house training team who can help you along if you are taking your first steps in your career as a support worker.

Above all you need to be kind, caring and ready to work as a team to ensure that our services are comfortable, happy, fulfilling and safe places to live.
