Job Description

We are looking for an UKCP-registered Systemic Family Psychotherapist to work in the systemic team in Newham Secondary Care Psychological Services. This is a part-time (18.75 hours per week), permanent post at Band 7. The post is based in Stratford, Newham.

The post holder will work alongside two other systemic therapists, and systemic and clinical psychology trainees in the team. The systemic team is embedded within a psychotherapy service offering a range of therapies for clients experiencing complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties, including cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, integrative therapy, arts therapy, trauma-focused interventions, and mentalization-based therapy.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering specialist systemic psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, groups and carers; and for offering consultation, training and teaching to colleagues from other professional backgrounds. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service policies and procedures.

The post holder will join a vibrant team of psychological practitioners and therapists, and contributing to a high quality clinical service using a variety of therapeutic models with an approach which takes into account the social, economic and political context of psychological problems and considers the impact on mental health of socio-economic deprivation, difference, discrimination and racism.

Newham is well known for its innovative and responsive mental health services. The staff in the Borough are committed to a service approach for people with mental health problems, emphasizing community based interventions, psychological and therapeutic approaches in all settings and user involvement in all aspects of care. The Borough is exceptionally rich in ethnic and cultural diversity and this, together with extensive regeneration projects makes it a vibrant place to live and work.

Psychologists and therapists in the service work jointly with other staff from other settings to deliver a comprehensive, coordinated and culturally competent psychological service. The service aims to lead in creating a psychologically literate workforce across services in the London Borough of Newham and to bring a psychological perspective to the work of individuals, teams and systems. It focuses both on evidence-based clinical excellence and developing practice-based evidence relevant to meeting the needs of a very diverse population. Reflective practice, innovation and CPD are actively encouraged. The service has excellent relationships with the regional training courses and is regularly involved in both supervision and teaching.
