Job Description

  • To provide excellent clinical and professional leadership to clinical staff at all levels within Theatres, ensuring that patient care is delivered to a high standard and that the staffing resource is managed effectively;
  • Work closely with the Clinical Director and General Managers for the Directorate, as Matron for Theatre, to ensure that the individual directorate based ‘triumvirates’ work effectively to achieve the Trust’s objectives;
  • Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence, establishing innovative and professional leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses and theatre practitioners;
  • Lead on promoting safe patient standards in line with both local and national guidelines with particular reference to 5 Steps to Safer Surgery, and providing both a safe and quality environment for patients and the users of the service;
  • Lead on evaluating, developing, supporting and achieving effective patient pathways and flow to improve and maintain efficient theatre utilisation;
  • Co-ordinate and work collaboratively with members of the multi-professional team, dealing with complex and sensitive issues, to ensure that all aspects of the Theatre service are delivered effectively and in a timely manner;
  • Be involved in the planning and implementation of developments relating to patient care and quality throughout the Trust;
  • Lead on the development of Theatre Services, identifying areas for development and improvement;
  • Lead on achieving and supporting the maintenance of Theatre Practice Development.

Job Requirements

  • Qualified Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner;
  • Knowledge and proven experience of working in a highly pressured NHS organisation;
  • Experience of leading the implementation of service improvement including complex change management programmes at a management level;
  • Experience of managing risk associated with service change.
